A Root Cause Approach to Healthy Growth and Function

At Radical Wellness – Memphis, we take a proactive, whole-body approach to oral health, facial development, and airway function. Instead of waiting for problems like crooked teeth or breathing issues to worsen, we use the Myobrace® system to address the underlying causes early—supporting your child’s natural growth and long-term health.

Our care is guided by the clinical philosophy of Dr. Paige Prather, a biological and airway-focused dentist who oversees the care protocols at Radical Wellness. Dr. Prather is known for her commitment to treating the source of problems—not just the symptoms—and she has integrated Myobrace into Radical Wellness because it aligns perfectly with that philosophy.

Why Myobrace®?

The Myobrace® system does more than straighten teeth—it supports healthy development by training the muscles and habits that shape the face, jaws, and airway.

With consistent use, Myobrace can:

  • Address the root causes of crooked teeth

  • Promote proper muscle function and tongue posture

  • Improve nasal breathing and reduce mouth breathing

  • Support natural jaw growth and alignment

  • Help children reach their full genetic potential

  • Be worn just 1–2 hours a day and during sleep

Who is Myobrace® For?

  • Young children in early development stages (Nichole Parker, Certified Myobrace® Educator, will help assess readiness for treatment)

  • Children ages 5–15 who show signs of crowding, poor oral habits, or mouth breathing

  • Teens and adults looking to improve muscle function, breathing, or address mild to moderate orthodontic or TMJ concerns without traditional braces

While early treatment is ideal, Myobrace is available for adults as well, and can be especially helpful for improving function, breathing, and comfort without invasive interventions.

Why Do Children Have Crooked Teeth?

A large—and growing—number of children today experience crowded teeth, narrow jaws, and poor facial development. While it was once believed these issues were mostly inherited, modern research shows that poor oral habits and improper function during development are the true root causes.

In biology, there’s a saying: “Form follows function.” This means the way a child’s jaws and face develop is directly influenced by how they breathe, swallow, and use their oral muscles. When these functions are disrupted, it can lead to misaligned teeth, narrow airways, and other developmental concerns.

Common Habits That Interfere with Jaw and Facial Development:

  • Mouth breathing or sleeping with the mouth open

  • Tongue thrusting or improper swallowing patterns

  • Thumb sucking and prolonged pacifier use

  • Poor oral posture (tongue resting low or forward)

These habits can limit proper jaw growth, contribute to crooked teeth, and even cause sleep disturbances, frequent respiratory infections, bedwetting, or snoring. Fortunately, when identified early, these issues can be addressed through functional, non-invasive care.

What Is Myobrace® for Children?

Myobrace® is a pre-orthodontic system designed to prevent the need for braces by addressing the root causes of crooked teeth and underdeveloped jaws. It focuses on correcting poor oral habits and supporting natural growth—often without the need for extractions, expanders, or traditional orthodontics.

Myobrace uses a combination of:

  • Removable appliances (worn 1–2 hours a day and during sleep)

  • Myofunctional exercises to retrain breathing, swallowing, and tongue posture

  • Educational tools to encourage healthy habits at home

This treatment is most effective for children ages 3 to 15, but early intervention can begin even younger.
